What happens to your email address

If you subscribe, this site stores your email address and the date you confirmed it. That is the whole record. There is no name, no tracking, no analytics, and no profile.

It is used for one thing: sending you a short note when a post is published. It is never sold, shared, or used to contact you about anything else.

The address is stored in a DynamoDB table in AWS, and the mail is sent by Amazon SES. Those are the only third parties involved, and neither is given the address for any purpose of its own.

Submitting the form stores a pending record straight away — it has to, or the confirmation link would have nothing to confirm. That record stops being usable after 24 hours, and is deleted automatically once it expires. Deletion is handled by the database on its own schedule, so it usually happens within hours of expiry but is not guaranteed to the minute. An unconfirmed address is never sent anything beyond the single confirmation email.

Every email has an unsubscribe link that does not expire. Using it stops all mail immediately. If you would rather the record were deleted outright rather than marked unsubscribed, emailthe address on the about page and it will be.

If you would rather not hand over an address at all, theRSS feed carries the same posts and tells this site nothing about you.
